We are going into Week 3 of our Waste Reduction Challenge, and thought it was about time to share some of our favorite student submissions. The reaction from schools, students and families around the world has been incredible as hundreds of students from every corner of the globe have come together to start reducing their waste at home.
You can find all worksheets for the weekly challenges here, and recreate them at any point in time. The aim of last week’s challenge was to track all your plastic waste, and then sort it and document it at the end of the week. This way you become aware of just how much plastic you are actually using in your household to decide what and how you can make changes to your household habits.
Here are some of our favorite submissions from Week 1:
Frederica from Dubai did an amazing job recycling – a total of 36 items in only one week!
David from Mexico clearly marks her box, so her family knows to not throw things out but recycle them instead.
Kesewaa collected her plastics for the week and made sure to clean them with water and soap! A great way to stay as hygienic as possible, especially during this time. Plus, you can re-use some of the items if they are sparkly clean.
Valeria from Mexico also put up a special bin to collect all the plastic for the week. Now it’s time for some recycling or upcycling – we see some great craft opportunities in those egg cartons!
We learned that one of the simplest ways to reduce plastic waste is to drink from a reusable water bottle at all times, especially when traveling. And always have a reusable bag with you to avoid your items being packed into plastic bags!
We’d love for you to join us for our next challenge, this week focusing on sustainable fashion. Simply click on this link on Wednesday, May XX 2020 at 16:00 CET, or watch the Zoom recording on our YouTube channel at any time.
