We choose all our Destinations for the unique experiences and learning opportunities they offer—and Copenhagen is no exception. A dynamic, multicultural hub, the city is ripe with iconic architecture, community-led sustainability initiatives, and cutting-edge technology.
On a school trip to Copenhagen, students will meet local innovators, dive into the local art scene, and partake in workshops to get a taste of what a strong community and togetherness look like in the Danish capital.
Highlights from our Copenhagen itinerary
Gardening in the Sea
This seaside experience, in the port of Copenhagen, is offered by local sustainability experts who will lead students through a 3-hour workshop focused on the mussel and seaweed farm. With a focus on regenerative food production, students will gain insight into the harbor’s ecosystem and understand its connection to large, global food systems.
With urban aquaculture in miniature, there is an opportunity to involve students in the creation of their food and create a greater understanding of the sea as a pantry and ecosystem. Our travelers love partnering with this innovative organization and rave about how much they learned while enjoying the chance to harvest, cook, and consume their own mussels.
Sustainable Tivoli Workshop & Park Visit
Sustainability and amusement parks might not seem like the most obvious combination. Yet, in the heart of Copenhagen, the historical Tivoli Gardens has invested extensive effort to make themselves an authority on green and responsible operations. Founded in 1843, Tivoli Gardens became a national treasure and has inspired the likes of fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen, who visited many times and incorporated the imagination-drenched surroundings into his work.
Now, in Tivoli’s inspiring learning space, professionalism and play are combined in a wide range of teaching offerings based on social constructivist learning theory. Our cooperation with the sustainability ambassadors leading this project means that students get to engage in a lecture about the history of this long-running theme park and how it runs sustainably today. After the presentation, the group will have time to enjoy the attractions in the beautiful garden. Students on our trip particularly love getting a behind-the-scenes look at the park before opening hours.
A Cutting-Edge VR Experience
Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are here to stay and will impact the way today’s youth will live and work tomorrow. Through our cooperation with a leading Scandinavian Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) production studio, students get to delve into the latest in VR technology and enjoy a themed experience centered around Copenhagen’s pioneering efforts in urban planning and architecture.
This unique experience adds another perspective on how technology can shape the future as students explore questions like, What is the difference between Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality? How has this technology developed in the last decades, and where are we headed? How does VR make it possible to experience the world from new angles?
Community Building Dinner
We believe in giving students as much exposure as possible to the local culture. While on a school trip in Copenhagen, Folkehuset Absalon is the perfect place to do it. A community center where locals and visitors can meet, the founders of Absalon explain their space as “an extension of your own living room, full of new and old friends, table tennis, music, backgammon, movies, banking, food, dance, coffee, chess, yoga, flea markets, parties, lectures and everything between heaven and earth.”
They believe that what gives life value are the social ties we form with each other and want to create a framework for precisely this. Students will have the chance to participate in a communal dinner and share a table with local residents in this unique community space.
