Water & Education in Rural Cambodia
Having endured colonialism, dictatorships, invasions and a forced rural exodus, the unbreakable spirit of Cambodians still prevails. Today, the local communities in the Siem Reap province are struggling with a different kind of political challenge: the effects of the ongoing climate crisis.
During this CLS Asia Trip, students will be serving and connecting with the people of rural Cambodia, whose communities suffer from a lack of water accessibility, as well as a lack of access to education. The climate crisis is making it ever so difficult for locals to lift themselves out of poverty.
Get ready for an exciting week-long adventure, bringing together students and locals through this community-led infrastructure project. You will truly be making a positive impact by providing the water access needed for health purposes and economic growth in Cambodia.
The Project
Water Tank Planning & Building
Students will be serving a rural community in the Siem Reap province, where the effects of climate change have left a drastic need for water. The population lives in poverty, requiring easy access to water for both day-to-day living and agricultural farming.
The aim of this project is to provide locals with safe access to drinkable water for domestic use, as well as water for irrigation purposes throughout the year. Students will help design, build and fund a water tank for the community.
This project is so important because clean water will also allow local children to be healthier, so they can attend school and help lift themselves out of poverty. The entire project is carried out in an environmentally and ecologically responsible way.
