We have crafted our Global Student Exchanges (GSEs) to be so much more than trips. They are transformative journeys that empower students to connect, grow, and make a tangible difference. In 2024, over 50 nationalities came together in Lisbon, Prague, and Peru for a collective adventure in cultural exchange, service, and reflection. With an impressive 5,374 service hours logged across all exchanges, participants walked away not only with incredible memories but also with new skills, a stronger sense of purpose, and lifelong friendships.
As we look to 2025, the excitement builds. With fresh itineraries and expanded programs, the upcoming GSEs are ready to inspire the next wave of global changemakers. Let’s reflect on the highlights from 2024 and explore why 2025 is your year to join the movement.

Lisbon Adventure: Stories That Stay With You
Lisbon’s dynamic culture and sunny spirit were the perfect backdrop for exploration and service. With 1,666 service hours contributed, students experienced the city in ways that went far beyond the surface. From connecting with local communities to engaging in environmental conservation, every moment was packed with opportunities for growth and connection.
A multitude of meaningful experiences
Participants dove into a variety of hands-on activities:
- Park clean-up: In Monsanto, students removed 790kg of trash, playing a direct role in combating ocean pollution and protecting local ecosystems.
- Elderly outreach: Sewing sessions with Lisbon’s seniors offered a heartwarming window into their lives, highlighting the power of intergenerational connections.
- Creativity in action: From a pastel de nata cooking workshop to a sustainable design challenge, students had plenty of opportunities to mobilize the creative inspiration of their surroundings.
Lessons on migration and cultural exchange
A standout activity in 2024 was the migration workshop, where students explored the complex realities of migration through personal stories.
“It’s one thing to learn about migration from textbooks, but actually hearing these stories firsthand gave our students a whole new perspective. They saw how local and global issues intersect in a deeply human way.”
—Kirsty, teacher, Codrington International School, Barbados
For many participants, Lisbon was about discovering themselves just as much as the city:
“What surprised me was how much more you take in when you’re in a new environment. Everything feels so fresh, so beautiful, and you want to remember it all.”
—Ava, student, Codrington International School, Barbados
What’s next for 2025?
The Lisbon Adventure will expand with even more interactive workshops and creative activities. From urban art tours to new sustainability initiatives, 2025 is set to inspire students with its unique blend of cultural immersion and impactful service.

Prague Spring: Culture, Community, and Change
The Prague Spring Exchange in 2024 brought together students from around the world who collectively contributed an astounding 3,198 service hours. Known for its rich history and modern innovation, Prague offered students a chance to engage with meaningful projects while exploring the city’s fascinating cultural landscape.
Making a difference
Participants worked on impactful service projects, including:
- Organic urban farming: Students got their hands dirty learning about sustainable urban agriculture and supporting local farmers.
- Homeless cooking: Preparing meals for unhoused individuals allowed students to build empathy and contribute to social good.
- Street vendor support: Assisting vendors with Novy Prostor magazine distribution helped promote financial independence in marginalized communities.
For students like Nikita, these activities offered a glimpse into the power of collaboration:
“Even though I come from an international school, my environment feels closed. Seeing how people from different cultures interact during these activities was incredible. It’s hard to explain; you just have to experience it.”
Cultural immersion in the heart of Europe
Prague’s charm lies in its ability to blend old-world allure with cutting-edge ideas. Students explored the city’s artistic heritage through visits to museums and hands-on workshops while participating in activities that encouraged critical thinking and creativity.
- Homelessness awareness: Workshops allowed students to learn directly from those affected, building empathy and understanding.
“Doing service activities with homeless people and learning about their stories opened my eyes. It made me develop empathy and reflect on how fortunate I am. I now value my family relationships even more.”
—Patricio, student, Madison International School, Mexico
What’s next for 2025?
In 2025, Prague Spring will inspire with arts and activism. Participants will have the chance to engage in street art projects, urban renewal initiatives, and innovative workshops designed to spark creativity and social impact.

Peru Discovery: Where Tradition Meets Transformation
In the heart of the Andes, the Peru Discovery Exchange immersed students in breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural traditions. Participants worked on projects that supported local communities while reflecting on global challenges.
Building bridges through service
Students embraced activities like:
- Community meal preparation: Cooking alongside locals created meaningful connections and a deeper appreciation for Peruvian culture.
- Adobe brickmaking: Participants learned traditional techniques to support sustainable housing initiatives.
- Women’s weaving collective: As students participate in hands-on workshops, learning the skills of natural dyeing and weaving, they gain a firsthand understanding of the cooperative’s commitment to sustainable production practices.
For Camila, these moments were eye-opening:
“It made me realize that small actions can lead to big changes. I left inspired to take more action in my life.”
Adventure and reflection
The program also included treks through the Sacred Valley and guided visits to Machu Picchu, allowing students to reflect on their role as stewards of the planet while marveling at Peru’s natural and cultural wonders.
What’s next for 2025?
Next year’s Peru Discovery will continue exploring environmental initiatives and deeper engagements with Indigenous communities, providing students with an even richer experience.
