It is safe to say that the year of 2020 has already brought about radical change. In the wake of COVID-19 and in the midst of the climate crisis, our global communities and landscapes are more fragile and in need of help than ever before.

History has time and time again shown us the power of youth in providing solutions to global problems, and we are throwing down the gauntlet to this generation of students to step up.

Based on the criteria of the IB’s obligatory CAS Project, the Changemakers Challenge 2020 tasks teams of 3-6 students to invent or campaign for something that will make a positive impact in your community.

We encourage students to introduce and present their project by creating a short video. The team with the most impactful and original idea and implementation, will win an all-expenses paid trip to present their Changemakers Challenge project at one of our Global Student Conferences in either Boston, Edinburgh or Singapore.

After receiving some wonderful submissions last year, we decided to take the Changemakers Challenge one step further, open the competition up to all students from all schools and not just CAS Trips participants, while also simplifying the application process for schools and students!

Here are the main changes and new additions:

  • A catchy animated video explaining the Changemaker Challenge – check it out and share it with your students or on your social media platforms!
  • A simplified 5-step application process: 1) Build your team, 2) Identify issues in your local community, 3) Explore the UN SDGs, 4) Execute the Changemakers Challenge, and 5) Submit your Changemakers Challenge. Each of these steps are explained in detail on our new webpage.
  • Two new worksheets to help students identify issues and execute their project.
  • A simple online submission platform.

Students from around the world submitted some inspirational projects throughout our Waste Reduction Challenge in May. Now, as we re-launch the Changemakers Challenge, we look forward to receiving more unique submissions and ideas, inspiring and affecting change in their own community.

Projects must be submitted by December 20th, 2020. If you run into any problems or have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
